Katrina and The Waves: Que te quiero

Surgidos a comienzos de los años 80, la banda anglo-estadounidense Katrina and the Waves ocupan un lugar preferente entre las bandas de pop-rock más importante de esta década en el Reino Unido. Su extraordinario éxito  "Walking on Sunshine" les lleva a ser nominados a los Grammy y a copar las listas de éxito de medio mundo. Años más tarde obtuvieron otro pico de popularidad al conseguir  ganar el Festival de la Canción de Eurovisión con un record de puntuación con la canción "Love Shine A Light" y representando a Inglaterra.

Pero a parte de esos dos grandes éxitos, hay otra canción con la que pretendo recordarles. Se trata de un tema en el que emplean el castellano en su estribillo titulado "Que Te Quiero". Estribillo pegadizo, sonido divertido, puro pop de los 80 con ese toque de sonido fronterizo mexicano que le da un toque especial.

Tullio de Piscopo: Stop Bajon (Primavera).

Atrás dejamos la estación por antonomasia más triste y oscura del año, para adentrarnos en el despertar de la luz, las flores y la naturaleza más radiante y viva. La primavera ya está aquí, y de que mejor manera para recibirla que con Stop Bajon (Primavera).

Una canción de Tullio de Piscopo -batería y excelente músico- que bajo el auspicio de la nueva moda italo dance de comienzos de los años 80, nos enganchó con su estribillo pegadizo y ese optimismo que envolvia cada nota de la canción.

Plastic Bertrand: Ça Plane Pour Moi

Roger Allen François Jouret, conocido artísticamente como Plastic Bertrand es un músico, cantautor y presentador televisivo belga, que pese a haber tenido un extenso currículum profesional, un único tema es por lo que pasará a la historia. Se trata de la pegadiza "Ça plane pour moi" de 1977, cantada por numerosos artistas a lo largo de la historia, y paradógicamente nunca por él mismo, como así tuvo que reconocer años más tarde, ya que fue su productor, y a la vez compositor de la canción Lou Deprijck, quién puso la voz. Aun así, este es una de sus interpretaciones en aquellos años de máximo esplendor de la canción.

Double: The Captain Of Her Heart

Una de esas melodías inolvidables que sin querer retornan a la memoria pasado los años es "The Captain Of Her Heart". Pertenece al grupo suizo Double, y allá por 1986 alcanzaron un notable éxito con esta dulce canción de estilo pop-jazz. Sólo hay que dejarse acariciar por su piano y saxo soprano para quedar atrapado en su atmósfera envolvente. Una delicia sonora que me sigue deleitando los oidos cada vez que la escucho.

Phil Carmen: Cool Night Water

Suizo de origen canadiense, Phil Carmen inició su carrera musical en los años 70 sin alcanzar relevancia hasta que llegaron los años 80 y su éxito "On My Way in LA", seguido de otro éxito europeo como "Moonshine Still".

A mi particularmente me llegó a impactar con su álbum City Walls. Los años 80 estaban ya finalizando, y composiciones sugerentes y llenas de encanto digerían el tiempo y el espacio que te rodeaba por medio de delicadas melodías envueltas con aterciopelados sonidos como "Cool Night Water", u otras más rítmicas y rebosantes de vida como City Walls.

Mariah Carey: Vision Of Love

Una jovencísima Mariah Carey se presentaba en 1990 con un álbum debut donde daba muestras de su rango vocal lleno de armonía y calidad, que la han servido para que años más tarde la convertieran en una de las mayores estrellas femeninas de nuestro tiempo, con gran éxito de ventas y premios.

"Vision Of Love" fue su primer sencillo. Con su firma en la composición, un sonido impecable, y una voz que explota hasta un silbido y que la hicieron única, logrando el Premio Grammy a la Mejor Interpretación Vocal Pop Femenina, el número 1 en la mayor parte del mundo, y sobre todo el lanzamiento de una mujer que quería convertirse en una estrella.

Al Jarreau: Murphy's Law

Con una voz versatil y original, Al Jarreau se desenvuelve con soltura por la música y las décadas. Ha conseguido 6 Grammys en estilos tan diversos como el jazz, RnB o pop y en 4 décadas diferentes.
Los ochenta fueron su época dorada, con éxitos tanto en discos propios como en tv, muchos recordareís la famosa sintonía de la serie Luz de Luna (Moonlighting). Criticado por los más puristas del jazz por sus devaneos con la comercialidad, la realidad es que este virtuoso de la voz, nos ha deleitado con hermosas canciones como "All Or Nothing At All", "Mornin'" o "L Is For Ever". Pero, aparte de las más conocidas, tambien podemos encontrar temas llenos del encanto y simpatía como este tema de 1984 titulado "Murphy's Law", donde como siempre, conseguía unir eso tan dificil como es la originalidad, comercialidad y calidad.
